Default Affiliate Marketing Resources

Hi,

http://afmare.com/, is an affiliate marketing guide. It is funny that I have chosen to provide advice to fellow marketers because at the moment I am an inexperienced internet marketer but I trust that it will help others nevertheless to make some cash.

I start university shortly and will be unable to continue with my full-time job as an architecural designer/builder so I am hoping that this online opportunity will eventually be enough to sustain me for the next few years while I study.

I have been researching affiliate marketing for almost a year now but only go started in April. What steps can I take to increase site traffic and generate my first sale?

Here's a few tips for your website:
  1. Use a white background with dark text, it always converts better and google prefers it
  2. Not everyone will have those title fonts you used so add more fonts in the font family if they don't have them e.g. "font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"
  3. If you can change your .htaccess file then automatically add on the www. before your domain name
  4. LINKBACKS! Get lots of links back to your site from sites which don't use nofollow, this is highly important to get ranked anywhere
  5. add an xml sitemap and submit it to all the search engines
  6. You need a DOCTYPE at the start of the code to tell the brower what sort of code is being used
  7. content language should be "en" not "en-jm"
  8. another improtant thing is that you need more text and to use keywords effectively in the page; look at other websites that are doing well and copy their techniques perhaps

The code's pretty neat apart from these things, you really need as many linkbacks as possible as that is the most important thing to getting a site noticed.

Thanks Jonny,

Html language gets the best of me.
  1. I wanted to be slightly different but I guess it pays to do so. lol. I will take this advice and make the change.
  2. Until now, i had now idea what was the purpose of "font-family".
  3. Where do I go to make this change - my webhost?
  4. I know I need to but is afraid of getting linkbacks from websites with bad reputations? Is there any way I can check a site's character?
  5. A xml sitemap?
  6. How do I add this DOCTYPE thing that you speak of? I am using FrontPage 2003.
  7. How do I change the content language?
  8. I will do this.
Thanks again.

  1. Better now than later down the line!
  2. Everyone has Ariel, Times New Roman, Tahoma etc. use them as backups, Ariel is the best converting again as it's easy to read
  3. add a file called ".htaccess" to your root and add top bit of code from this page on to it: http://www.bluehostforum.com/showthread.php?t=8206
  4. No backlinks can harm your site unless you spam like crazy, if backlinks harmed your site then you could put thousands of dodgy backlinks to your business competitors and ruin them!
  5. Use this site to generate a sitemap: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com Google's webmaster tools lets you upload it and verify your site
  6. This is the doctype code you want and it needs to be the very first thing on every page:
  7. change this: "en-jm" on your pages to this: "en"

You don't really need it btw

  8. Phil made a wicked post about keywords check it out now
Also the words in a link should be keywords too

Go get lots of linkbacks! Submit your site to all the social bookmarks for starters using this tool perhaps: http://www.socialmarker.com/

You still need a DOCTYPE for your pages, view the source of this forum and it's at the top.

Also images need to be resized by a good paint package and not resized by the browser. It takes a lot longer for a user to download full size images and Google wants websites to be as accessible as possible

Hi Jonny,

Thanks for the additional pointers. I am slowly working on the site upgrades you suggested. I am a novice with even the FrontPage software I use and my full-time job does not allow enough time to fully explore its capabilities. Let me see how much more I can get done in the next few days. I may then need further help from thereon.

Thanks much.

Ok, I used Microsoft Office Picture Manager to resize all images. Thanks alot.

I have also copied the DOCTYPE you mentioned but before I insert it -
  1. What does this specific one really say about the type of code I am using on http://www.afmare.com/?
  2. Do I need to alter this DOCTYPE to suit my website or do I copy and paste it as is?

It's something you shouldn't really worry about, it's used for webpages for mobile phones and other funny devices that's all:

just use the one at the top of this page: W3Schools

You're more likey to get click on your affiliate links if you use exit pages, it's a little advanced but I've made a guide that may help!

Keep striving for more content and especially link-backs, get blogging perhaps or make a Squidoo lens to start with!

Cheers
