Hi
It seems that I am allowed to copy various articles on education or whatever else I need from websites like Enzine or other free article type website and then post them into my website as if it is my original content. But I am surprised this is allowed because I thought that one could not copy from other websites and include them into their own because Google, Yahoo etc. would then ban my site for copying. So how is this allowed, why is it okay to copy articles from these type of websites and use them into mine for SEO optimization? I am concerned and while I want to gain traffic quickly, and will do almost anything to get it, in the end being banned by major search engines is not what I have in mind.

Please let me know your thoughts…

Hi,

I am a newbie myself, so my knowledge is limited. What I do know is that Google do not like you copying content from other sites, whether you can get banned, I'm not sure.
My suggestion to you is to look at other websites and article directories related to your niche, and copy and paste any relevant text which would appeal on your site into Notepad or Word, then you can take ideas or re-word from that text to create your own unique content.

This will help for your SEO, and I know Google do like unique content.

I hope this helps.

You can copy articles as long as you re-word them and say it in your own style. kelboy42 is right, also if you bring in snippets from a few different articles it'll make it look more unique.

I agree with what Jonny said, although if you take them from article directories you would probably need to rewrite them completely rather than just edit them, or you would need to include the signature box for the original author.

Regarding duplicate content, Google don't actually penalise websites for duplicate content, but if you post an article that's already on EzineArticles.com for example it's highly unlikely that your version of the article will be ranked in the SE. It might be listed, but no-one will find it as they'll treat the original article as the most relevant.

I wouldn't have any problem at all using articles from directories if it's useful information for the reader, but I'd always try to ensure that I had at least the same amount of original content on the site too. I've got a number of websites like that and many that rank well too, so it works just fine.

This might be useful to you...

I don't have any connection with Jon Leger - just like his stuff - and for $27 (which ends tomorrow) it's a nice piece of kit for writing your own articles.

The content wouldn't be original if you posted from other sites. The search engine know it. Rewriting as suggested by members here is one of the ways to produce unique content for your blog.

Duplicate content only matters if it's your own site. What's more important is that when u copy an article, you have to give a link back to it, else it's not legal.

A note of caution on using articles from places such as eZineArticles. You can use them for content; no problem. What you can not do is change anything in the article; that includes the bio They are not PLR type articles. It's a copy write thing. Be sure to read their "Use" page before thinking of changing anything. :ahh:

The only real problem with duplicate content is if you have the same article(s) on other pages of your site. It's really kind of hard to not have similar content of another site because of the immense size of the internet.

What is a common practice is to get some FREE or Paid-for PLR articles and then rewrite them by at least 70% to 60%. That makes them original enough so that you will have a unique article.

There is a site called "Article Checker" {A FREE Site} http://www.articlechecker.com/ That will show you how unique your article actually is.

I do have a close working knowledge about changing content on articles from eZineArticles because I have a dozen articles there and I have found some with the bio at the bottom removed. :angry27:

The purpose of writing an article is for the viral effect they produce.

I hope this clears this up a bit
