can i just promote it on facebook and other social networking sites?

There are a couple of different views on whether or not to have a FREE site.

My view, which means nothing to most, is that affiliate marketing is a business. As a business you should put your best face forward.

A private domain that relates to the product you want to promote looks more professional to a prospective buyer than a free domain would.

It is sort of akin to buying a good cut of meat from a store or out of the back of a pickup truck.

I have seen people buy from the back of a pickup truck that was canvasing the neighborhood. So a FREE site may work, but not as good as a professionally named domain.

It's all in perception I guess.
