Every single top internet marketer earns a fortune from their list of subscribers and YOU should too.

“The money is in the list” is a phrase you’ll hear constantly on the web. The idea is that you collect the names and emails from as many of your visitors as you can so you can stay in contact with them. These subscribers become “your list” and you make regular money from them.

Here’s how it works:

• Collect names and email addresses on your site using an opt-in box.
• Send your subscribers follow up messages via an autoresponder.
• Your messages include your affiliate links to products.
• Some of your list will purchase products through your affiliate links.
• Hey Presto! . . . you make money.

DON'T WORRY IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND SOMES OF THESE THINGS YET. JUST READ THROUGH THE WHOLE OF THIS PAGE AND I'LL EXPLAIN AS I GO ALONG.

If you have a review site, salespage or content site, your visitors will convert to sales at around 1 or 2%. Once they have left your site, they may never come back again. And the majority will leave without buying.

But if you have a good opt-in box or page on the other hand, it should convert to opt-ins at 30 to 40%, sometimes more. Which means you are capturing 30 to 40 subscribers for every 100 visitors. Subscribers who have given you permission to contact them in the future.

An opt-in box is a simple way for you to collect visitor details on auto pilot. A visitor inputs their name and email address into the boxes, like in the example below;

When someone inputs their name and email into the form on your website, the details are sent automatically and instantly to your autoresponder and the autoresponder immediately sends your first message to the recipient.

An autoresponder is an online service which allows you to collect and store email addresses. They are put into a kind of database. Then you can send emails to the whole or parts of your list automatically. In other words it "autoresponds" for you!

The great thing is you can load a sequence of emails into your autoresponder account, then send them to your list at pre-planned intervals.

Let’s say for a moment that you have a Cash Survey review site. You have an opt-in box on your site which offers 10 great survey tips, as an opt-in gift to your newsletter.

Your newsletter is based on making money with survey tips, guides and product reviews. Everything survey related!

Just research the subject and find good, useful info. Look around on the web and re- write the interesting stuff for use in your newsletter. It should be easy to find things like tips and survey reviews right? You can grab them from the advertisers area in HighProfits for a start, or write your own.

Remember to include a link to your free gift in your first message and introduce yourself. Explain what your subscribers can expect from your newsletter and tell them you’ll be sending more free gifts over the coming months.

Here’s an example of an autoresponder. If you look at the pic below you’ll see the “Interval” column. The first entry is 0 which means the message will be sent as soon as the person opts-in.

Message 2 will be sent 7 days later. Message 3 will be sent 7 days after message 2 and so on.

You could load up as many messages/newsletters as you want and they’d be delivered automatically. Load up 52 and you can forget about it for a year! Of course you can change the intervals to whatever you want. Daily, monthly etc. The messages can be personalised with the subscriber’s name too.

And don’t forget, if you need to send something urgently to all your subscribers, you can do a campaign blast. This will send your single message to everyone on your list, without upsetting your other messages.

The example above is from Aweber, which is one of the biggest online autoresponders. You can get autoresponder software and host your own but it’s far easier to subscribe to one of the online services and have everything taken care of.

Also, your messages will be a complete waste of time if they are not delivered. Aweber has around 99% deliverability, which means your messages will get through to your subscribers. If you try the self hosted autoresponder software, your messages will have no where near the same level of deliverability. Aweber is whitelisted and trusted by all the main ISP's and so you can be sure your messages will get through.

You can use an opt-in box on your main site or you can have a webpage with just an opt-in box. This is called an “Opt-In page” or “Squeeze page”.

If you are going to have one on your main site, have it “above the fold”. All this means is that a visitor will see it WITHOUT scrolling down the page. You can have it on the left or right of your page if you want to blend it in a bit. 

Unless your site is a pure salespage. You would usually have your opt-in further down the page in that case.

Just remember building your list is very important. If you can get people to give you their permission to contact them via email, you can keep in touch with them. Otherwise after their first visit, they may never come back to your site and you’ve lost them forever.

What a waste! You spend time, money and effort to get them to your page, only to let them have a quick look around and leave. They may never come back again.

By getting them on your mailing list, you have more chances to build their trust so they may eventually buy from you. You haven’t got to wait for them to come to you when they’re on your mailing list, you can go to them, right?

The best way to get people to sign up for your list, is to offer them an incentive. Something useful but free. This can be an e-book, special report as well as your newsletter etc.

If you just have a box with “Sign up to my newsletter” next to it, you might get a few sign ups from people who are very interested in your niche and presume you’ll send them relevant info. You don’t want just a few though, do you? You want lots.

A far better way is to make your opt-in box like a mini salesletter. But instead of having to pay for whatever it is you’re selling, your visitor just has to opt-in. Just make sure you let them know the benefits of signing up to your list.

The thing is, you can’t just presume people will want to sign up just because you’re giving them something free. There still has to be something in it for them. Something that will make giving up their email worthwhile. You still have to convince them.

I remember when I first started building my lists and had around 2500 subscribers. In one of my messages I mentioned an ebook I had come across. I thought the ebook was really good for newbies and I told my subscribers about it. I obviously included my affiliate link to the ebook.

52 of my subscribers bought it and I made $20 commission on each one. So I made $1040 for sending an email. Just think if my list would have been 25,000! I would have earned $10,400.

Many marketers have lists of 25,000, 50,000, 100,000 even 1,000,000 subscribers. But they didn't get these overnight. they worked at it and ALL of them started out like you, with no list.

You really do need an autoresponder to manage your list. DO NOT use the software that runs on your own PC. You need an online service and yes, you'll have to pay for it, but it's THE best investment you'll make online. Aweber is the one we use and it's less than $20 per month.
